    （A） The area was economically unified.
    （B） The authorities were unable to enforce law and order.
    （C） The two governments fought for control of the area.
    （D） Most of the people living there spoke only French.
    答案是A.
    這道題比較難，因?yàn)檫x項(xiàng)都不是原句的簡單改寫或者復(fù)述，你可以從短語“infer about”得到提示它是一道暗示推理題。有了這種思想準(zhǔn)備之后，即使你一時(shí)沒找到答案也不會(huì)太灰心。但是題總是要答的，甚至用猜。原對(duì)話中的句字“At the time Quebec was a major market for livestock， crops and fish. So a road to Quebec was seen by officials in Maine as necessary for trade”說明，A是正確答案?？磥?，暗示推理題并不好做。然而，有幸的是，暗示推理題的正確選項(xiàng)與其它3個(gè)選項(xiàng)有較大的區(qū)別。那就是選項(xiàng)中很少或者根本不用原話，或者原詞。就像這一題，選項(xiàng)A中只有一個(gè)詞重復(fù)原文，即area這個(gè)很不重要的詞。
