            Grandpa: Yeah, he's fine. Just fine. He's writing to invite me to spend a weekend with him at his farm. He's planning a get-together with two or three other college friends. Kind of a fifty-year anniversary reunion.

            他寫信請我到他農(nóng)場上去度周末。 　　
            invite sb. to do sth.: 邀請某人去做某事。 　　
            spend a weekend with sb.: 與某人共度周末。 　　
            2. He's planning a get-together with two or three other college friends. Kind of a fifty-year anniversary reunion. 　　
            他正計劃著要同兩三位別的大學時期的朋友聚會一下，就算是個畢業(yè)50周年紀念重聚會。 　　        get-together: 聯(lián)歡會，聚會。 　　
            kind of: 在非正式英語中表示“某種， 類似，如同”，可用于單數(shù)名詞、形容詞、動詞等的前面。也常說成 “sort of”。 　　
            reunion: 重聚，同班同學高校畢業(yè)后的重聚聯(lián)歡會。高中和大學時的同班同學在畢業(yè)多年后常安排重聚或重聚聯(lián)歡會。 　　
            3. How come he never got married? 　　
            他為什么一直未結(jié)婚呢？ 　　
            How come: 用于一個完整的陳述句前，構成問句，是用來問“Why”的非正式說法。意思是“事情是怎么發(fā)生的?”，“為什么會有這種情況？”How come，等。這個come無時態(tài)或人稱變化。又如， 　　
            How come she doesn't know about it? （為什么她不知道？） 　　
            You're back early. How come?（你為什么會回來得這么早？） 　　
            4. That's a good question, Robbie. A very good question. 　　
            這問題問得很好，Robbie。問得很好。 　　
            That's a good question. : 說這句話，并不一定是指對方的問題提得好，更經(jīng)常的情況只是為了給自己爭取一點時間來思考一下，或者引出自己的回答。 　　
            5. He never got over it. 　　
            他始終未能釋然于懷。 　　
            get over: 指的是從某種精神狀態(tài)恢復過來。在這里指從（失戀中）恢復過來，忘卻。

            這房間跟我們結(jié)婚的時候一模一樣。 　　
            這里的when從句是狀語從句，修飾 it was，而we were married意指 we just got married，即第一次來此度蜜月的時候。 　　
            2. Even the old patchwork quilt is the same! 　　
            連這老式拼花被罩都是原來那一條。 　　
            patchwork quilt: 百袖被罩，拼花被罩，即用小布塊縫綴的被罩。這曾是美國一種相當普遍的民間藝術。 　　
            3. My great-grandmother made that quilt when Teddy Roosevelt was President. 　　Teddy Roosevelt: 指的是美國第26任總統(tǒng)Theodore Roosevelt。任期從1901年到1909年。Teddy是Theodore的昵稱。

            在那個年頭人們做拼花被罩時要從家里每個人的舊衣服上剪下塊布來，以便讓每個人都有一份。 　　so that: 意思是“以便；所以”?？谡Z中that也可以省略。so that是引導目的狀語從句的連詞，等于in order that，從句中動詞多用 may/can/will 以及 might/could/would/should，以表示一種只是主觀企求達到的目的，而還不是真正已達到的結(jié)果。 　　
            5. I remember you and your wife from the first time you stayed with us. 　　我記得你和你妻子第一次住在我們這兒的時候。 　　
            the first time you stayed with us: 在 time 后面的定語從句常省去關系詞 that（或when）。         6. And very much in love. 　　
            也十分相愛。in love: 相愛。 　　
            7. Would a professional photographer be without a picture? 　　
            一位專業(yè)攝影師會沒有照片嗎？這句話是個虛擬語氣的反問句，Richard的意思是“作為一名專業(yè)攝影師，我當然有照片”。 　　
            Would …?: 這是常用的表示“詰難，*”等感情的句式。又如，Would you hit such a small boy? （難道你會打這么小的孩子嗎？）

            good-looking: 好看的；美貌的。這是個復合形容詞。

            compliments of: 這是with the compliments of…的省略語，是在免費贈送某物給顧客時常用的套語，也可以說（With the）compliments of the management或 With our compliments。compliments原來是“贊美的話，致意，問候”的意思。在這里指的是“免費贈送，贈品”。

            this is my idea of…: 在這里等同于this is what I think…should be like.
