Nanabozo, the friend of men, did much to make the life of the Indians happier .
One day he decided to leave them and let them live by themselves. He was a clever man. He knew that easy life did not make the people stronger. He wanted to see how well they remembered what he taught them.
He said to the Indian people , "I am leaving the country , but before I leave, I will fulfil one wish for each of you. "
納納勃周是人民的朋友，為了使印度人的生活更加幸福，他做了許多事情。
有一天，他決定離開他們，讓他們自己獨(dú)立生活。他是一個非常聰明的人，他知道安逸的生活不會使人們更加強(qiáng)壯。但是他希望看到人們是如何很好地記住了他的教導(dǎo)的。
于是他對印度人民說：“我就要離開你們的國家，但我在臨走之前，準(zhǔn)備為你們每個人實(shí)現(xiàn)一個愿望。”

Many people came to him and he fulfilled one wish for each of them .
The last people who came to him were four hunters. Nanabozo asked the men what they wished .
The first said that he wished to be kind一hearted. Nanabozo fulfilled his wish . with great pleasure.
The second man , who was ugly and couldn't sing because of his bad voice , asked Nanabozo to make him handsome and to give him a pleasant voice . Nanabozo fulfilled his wish too.
The third man was poor and wanted to become rich . Nsnabozo made him a rich man at once.
許多人前來找他，他為他們每個人實(shí)現(xiàn)了一個愿望。
最后來找他的是四個獵人。納納勃周問他們希望得到什么。
第一個獵人說他希望能成為一個心地善良的人，納納勃周心情愉快地讓這個人實(shí)現(xiàn)了他的愿望。
第二個人長得很丑，而且由于嗓音不好不會唱歌，他請求納納勃周使他長得英俊，再給他一副好嗓音。納納勃周也讓他如愿以償了。
第三個獵人很窮，他希望自己能變富，納納勃周馬上就使他成了富人。

The fourth man , who was rich and handsome and who loved himself more than anybody else . Asked Nanabozo to give him eternal life . He thought that such a man as himself should live forever.
"Do you want to live in the hearts of men or before their eyes ? , , asked Nanabozo.
"Of course , before their eyes , "answered the hunter .
第四個獵人很富有，長得也漂亮，他愛他自己勝過任何人。他請求納納勃周能讓他長生不死，他認(rèn)為像他這樣的人應(yīng)該永遠(yuǎn)活著。
你是想活在人們的心中還是活在人們的眼前？”納納勃周問他
“當(dāng)然是活在人們的眼前了”這個獵人回答道

"Stone lives for ever ,"he said,"So you shall be a stone .”
And he changed the man into large stone .
納納勃周聽了之后非常生氣。

于是他就把這個人變成了一塊大石頭。
