Teachers' Day inAmerica(美國的教師節(jié))
    Tuesday of the first full week of May, will be NationalTeachers' Day every year, a time for honoring teachers andrecognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives. Theactual date varies from year to year. That whole week is designatedTeacher Appreciation Week by the National PTA. It's a time tostrengthen support and respect for teachers and the teachingprofession. The history of Teacher Day goes back to 1944.

    The origins of National Teacher Day are a bit murky, but it'sknown that an Arkansas teacher, Mrs. Mattye Whyte Woodridge, begancorresponding with political and education leaders as early as 1944about the need for a national day honoring teachers. One of theleaders she wrote to was Eleanor Roosevelt, who persuaded the 81stCongress to proclaim a National Teacher Day in 1953.

    In the late 1970s, the National Education Association(NEA)， itsIndiana and Kansas state affiliates, and its local affiliate inDodge City, Kansas, all lobbied Congress on behalf of creation of anational day celebrating teachers. Congress declared March 7, 1980as National Teacher Day for that year only。

    NEA and its affiliates continued to observe Teacher Day on thefirst Tuesday in March until 1985, when NEA and the National PTAestablished Teacher Appreciation Week as the first full week ofMay. The NEA Representative Assembly then voted to make the Tuesdayof that week National Teacher Day。
