汶川強(qiáng)地震發(fā)生后，有相當(dāng)一部分人成功地自救逃生了，比如被譽(yù)為“希望小學(xué)”的劉漢希望小學(xué)的師生們。這個(gè)“安全逃出危險(xiǎn)的境地，沒(méi)有受到傷害”我們可以用 to save one’s skin 來(lái)表達(dá)。
    To save one's skin的意思從表面看來(lái)是“救了某人的皮”，但實(shí)際的意思是“安全地逃出了危險(xiǎn)的境地，沒(méi)有受到傷害?！毕旅嫖覀円e的例子是說(shuō)一個(gè)人的兒子發(fā)生了車(chē)禍，這位爸爸說(shuō)：
    My son was in a bad auto accident last week. The other car went through a red light and smashed into him. It wrecked his car, but he was wearing his seat belt and that saved his skin -- he walked away without a scratch.
    我的兒子上星期在開(kāi)車(chē)時(shí)發(fā)生了嚴(yán)重的車(chē)禍。肇事車(chē)穿紅燈，然后撞上了我兒子的車(chē)，把他的車(chē)給撞壞了，但是因?yàn)樗抵踩珟В砸稽c(diǎn)都沒(méi)有受傷。
    下面我們要舉的一個(gè)例子雖然沒(méi)有生命危險(xiǎn)，但是對(duì)于一個(gè)學(xué)生來(lái)說(shuō)也是很重要的事。我們看看這位學(xué)生是怎么說(shuō)的：
    I was in real trouble last night: I had to type up a term paper to turn in to my English teacher this morning and my typewriter broke down. But the girl next door loaned me her typewriter; she really saved my skin.
    昨晚我可真是碰到了大問(wèn)題。今天早上我必須把一篇論文交給英語(yǔ)老師，昨晚得用打字機(jī)打完的。結(jié)果我的打字機(jī)壞了。幸好我隔壁的那個(gè)女孩把她的打字機(jī)借了給我，這可真是救了我的命。
    當(dāng)然，這里所謂的“救了我的命”只是為了加強(qiáng)語(yǔ)氣而已，實(shí)際上也就是“幫了我一個(gè)大忙，解救了一個(gè)危機(jī)?！?BR>
