有的人不管發(fā)生什么大事，似乎從來也不會(huì)感到驚奇，他們總能保持鎮(zhèn)靜，連眼睛都不眨一下，這在英文里就是：Not even bat an eye。Bat這個(gè)字的一個(gè)解釋是眨眼睛。可是，在這種情況下，它經(jīng)常是以否定的形式出現(xiàn)的。舉一個(gè)例子就更能說明這個(gè)問題了：
    "Bill didn't even bat an eye when they told him he had just won the lottery. He just shrugged and said, 'Well, I guess I can use the money.'"
    這句話的意思是：“當(dāng)比爾聽到他中了頭獎(jiǎng)的時(shí)候，他連眼睛都沒有眨一下，只是聳聳肩膀說：“行，我想這些錢是會(huì)有用的?！?BR>    中了頭獎(jiǎng)不表現(xiàn)激動(dòng)，這已經(jīng)很不容易了。要是一個(gè)人在賭錢的時(shí)候輸了錢，還要保持鎮(zhèn)靜的話那就更不容易了，可是比爾就能做到。請(qǐng)你們聽一聽和他一起賭錢的人是怎么說的：
    "Bill lost five thousand dollars on this one poker hand, but he didn't even bat an eye--he just shrugged and said, 'Easy come, easy go. Come on and deal the next hand!'"
