諸 葛 亮 在 《 出 師 表 》  說 ： “ 今 天 下 三 分 ， 益 州 疲 敝 ， 此 誠 危 急 存 亡 之 秋 也 。 ” 這 段 話 可 以 這 樣 譯 做 英 文 ： Now that the country is split into three parts and our Yi district is impoverished, the moment of truth is staring us in the face。 為 甚 么 這  把 “ 危 急 存 亡 之 秋 ” 譯 做 moment of truth呢 ？
    按 moment of truth一 詞 出 自 西 班 牙 斗 牛 場 ： 斗 牛 士 向 牛 刺 出 致 命 一 劍 的 一 刻 ， 叫 做 moment of truth。 這 是 生 死 、 成 敗 攸 關 的 一 刻 ， 斗 牛 士 必 須 使 出 真 本 領 ， 半 點 含 糊 不 得 。 所 以 ， 人 們 漸 漸 用 了 這 個 詞 來 比 喻 “ 緊 要 關 頭 ” 或 “ 嚴 酷 考 驗 才 能 、 人 格 等 的 時 刻 ” ， 例 如 ：
    The moment of truth is quickly approaching for the students. Could they undergo torture without betraying their comrades? Nobody knows.（ 學 生 們 快 要 面 臨 嚴 酷 考 驗 了 。 他 們 能 夠 抵 受 酷 刊 不 出 賣 同 志 么 ， 誰 都 不 知 道 。 ）
