首先,各位朋友在寫作前應(yīng)該了解英文短文的四大種載體(four kinds of writing)： 記敘文;描寫文;說明文和議論文。
簡單地說, narration 是講述一個故事；description 是描寫某人、某物；exposition 側(cè)重于解釋、說明某事物、某現(xiàn)象、某情況等；argumentation 的目的在于使人們信服自己的立場、觀點。
例如：以下一組作文題，意味著可以分別寫成四種載體的文章：
1. How I Got a Gift from My Parents
2. The Best Gift I Ever Got
3. How to Use the DC- a Gift from My Parents
4. Topic142. A gift (such as a camera, a soccer ball, or an animal) can contribute to a child’s development. What gift would you give to help a child develop? Why? Use reasons and specific examples to support your choice.
第一個可用記敘文來寫。第二個可寫成描寫性文章。第三個當然用說明文最適宜。第四個也就是我從185篇里抽出的一道作文題，個人認為寫為議論文形式較好。
綜觀很多TWE題目后，我們可以發(fā)現(xiàn)TWE毫無疑問適合以 exposition 或 argumentation 這兩種載體操作。這里我就從個人角度適當分析一下。
一. 載體的穿插使用
每篇文章都必然歸屬于某一種載體，但同一篇文章中并不排斥其他載體的表達方式，只是有主次之分。
比如，記敘文在敘述一個故事的過程中，常常不可避免地穿插些描寫；議論文也可有敘述、描寫；說明文更離不開適當?shù)拿鑼懮踔磷h論的配合。
以下我以TWE練筆中的一篇范文舉例。

隨后說明了具體的三個方面：In terms of the qualities of a good neighbor, as I have observed, could be in the rough concluded as “l(fā)aw-consciousness”, “respectfulness” and “readiness to help”. 而后面的3個段落，圍繞the qualities of a good neighbor這一中心，開展說明。
In the first place, a good neighbor should undoubtedly be well conscious about the law because no one is willing to get caught up in problems from someone else’s illegal activities. Even though I might not have committed any crime, I could still be involved since the one who committed it lives around the corner from my house. Still worse, I might feel quite insecure about my personal safety and property living in the vicinity with such a lawless person, which is like putting the cat near the goldfish bowl. In short, having a sound knowledge of law is the very prerequisite of being a good neighbor.
“Respectfulness” is another trait of a nice neighbor. By “respectfulness” I indicate not only .
