Bronx Woman Charged With Murder of Baby

A 25-year-old Bronx woman who first claimed that her baby had been abducted on Monday then changed her story and led the police on a fruitless search for the child in the Bronx and Queens was charged with second degree murder this morning, the police said.

After questioning her on Monday, the police determined that the woman, Lucila Rojas, placed her 3-week-old son in a trash bin near the intersection of Northern Boulevard and 98th Street in Jackson Heights sometime after she gave birth to the baby at Jacobi Hospital Medical Center in the Bronx in December.

Today the police said they were continuing to search for the baby's remains. Likely, they said, the baby's body would have been transported to a landfill in Pennsylvania, along with all refuse from the location in Jackson Heights where Ms. Rojas apparently left him.

She is expected to be taken shortly to the Queens Central Booking facility and her arraignment might take place as early as this afternoon, said Kevin Ryan, a spokesman for the Queens district attorney.
