    雪莉搭巴士，說(shuō)I always prefer traveling on the top deck。船或車輛的一層叫做deck；巴士的上下層，就叫upper/top deck和lower deck，例如：Standing on the upper deck is not allowed（上層不許站立）。兩層的巴士，叫double-decker (bus)，單層的則叫single-decker (bus)。In Auckland, all the buses are single-deckers即‘奧克蘭所有巴士都是單層的’。
    在巴士上，你有時(shí)會(huì)聽到售票員喊：Any more fares, please?（還有人要買票嗎？）車費(fèi)、船費(fèi)等，英文叫fare。你也會(huì)聽見售票員說(shuō)：Anyone without fares?（有人沒(méi)買票嗎？）或Fares, please（請(qǐng)買票）等。有些巴士沒(méi)有售票員，要乘客投錢入車費(fèi)箱內(nèi)，那車費(fèi)箱叫做fare box，例如：You should put your money in the fare box when you get on the bus（你上巴士時(shí)，應(yīng)把錢投入車費(fèi)箱中）。
    公共交通工具的乘客要付錢，所以乘客也叫做fare，例如：There are some 35 fares on the bus（巴士上大約有三十五名乘客）。有些人搭車不付錢，企圖瞞混過(guò)去，那叫做to dodge a fare，例如：(1) You may be prosecuted for trying to dodge bus fares（搭巴士不買車票，可能被起訴）。(2) The bus company has a team of inspectors responsible for catching fare dodgers（巴士公司有一隊(duì)查票員，負(fù)責(zé)尋查不付車費(fèi)的旅客）。Dodge是 ‘規(guī)避’，例如tax dodging（逃稅）、tax dodger（逃稅者）等。
