I see two kinds of pressure working on college students today: economic pressure, parental pressure.

The pressure is heavy on students who just want to graduate and get a job.

Long gone are the days when students journeyed through college with a certain relaxation, sampling a wide variety of courses that would send them out as liberally educated men and women.
曾記何時(shí)學(xué)生們通過很輕松地選擇許多課程來度過大學(xué)時(shí)光，從而成為大學(xué)通才教育的產(chǎn)物。但這種時(shí)光已一去不復(fù)返。
If I were an employer I would rather employ graduates who have this range and curiosity than those who narrowly pursued safe subjects and high grades. I know countless students whose inquiring minds exhilarate me. I like to hear the play of their ideas. I don’t know if they are getting As or Cs, and I don’t care. I don’t know if they are getting As or Cs, and I don’t care. I also like them as people. The country needs them, and they will find satisfying jobs. I tell them to relax. They can’t.
如果我是雇主，我寧愿雇傭那些有好奇心的博學(xué)之才而不是那些只選一些易過的且能達(dá)高分的課程的學(xué)生。我認(rèn)識無數(shù)學(xué)生，他們的好奇之心使我興奮不已，因?yàn)槲蚁矚g聽他們闡述自己的觀點(diǎn)，我不知道他們是得A 還是得C，我不在乎這些。我也同樣喜歡他們所散發(fā)出來的人性魅力。國家需要他們，他們也會找到自己滿意的工作。我告訴他們要放松，但他們做不到。
