一、Accommodation for new undergraduates
Our residences provide so much more than just accommodation. With pastoral support and 24-hour security, opportunities to get involved in green initiatives, drama and music productions or sporting activities and a great social calendar.

1.Accommodation fees
(1)Accommodation fees
The accommodation fee you pay depends on the type of room you have. We have a very wide variety of accommodation, and so the fees are varied too. Fees are calculated using a number of factors including room size, whether you have a basin, or en suite, facilities at your residence such as common rooms and bars, gardens and sports facilities, any enhancement to your room, and catering. The fee also includes all gas, electricity and water rates, plus internet and a bus pass.
(2)JCR fee
Each residence has a Junior Common Room (JCR), a committee run by students that organises social and sporting events. All students moving into University-allocated accommodation pay a fee of around £50 towards their JCR, which goes towards funding the social events provided by your residence throughout the year. This one-off charge is compulsory and is collected in your first fee payment.
(3)Insurance costs
All University allocated accommodation comes with compulsory basic contents insurance. The policy you are covered by and the cost of the insurance varies according to which residence you are in. It is vital that you check your policy and ensure that the cover is suitable for your needs. Bicycles are not usually covered as standard and you should top-up your insurance to cover your bicycle, for example.

2.Accommodation offers
You will be sent an email with a link for you to log in and access details of your accommodation offer. If you applied before 31 July your offer will be confirmed on Wednesday 23 August. If you apply by 31 August as a non-guaranteed student and we are able to make you an offer, it will be confirmed on Friday 1 September.

Your offer email normally contains the following information:
Name and address of residence
Type of room allocated
Accommodation fees and instalment information
Tenancy dates
Student residence conditions
Once your accommodation offer has been made, you will need to formally accept it online. Instructions are included in your offer email along with a deadline for accepting your offer. All rooms are allocated when the offers are made, there are no rooms left for moving people or changing rooms at this stage. Please note the following important information about your offer:
We will only make you one offer.
You normally have 3-4 days in which to accept your offer.
Due to the large numbers of applicants it can take a couple of days to process offers. If you do not receive your offer immediately don't panic; check your email account later in the day and the next day before you contact us.
Check your offer email carefully. If you miss the deadline you will lose your room and we may not be able to offer you another.

3.Accommodation guarantee
The University guarantees an offer of accommodation for the first year of study to all UK, EU and International undergraduates who apply by 31 July 2017, provided that they:
have firmly accepted an offer of study at Bristol,
are coming to study at Bristol for the first time,
are unaccompanied (i.e. without dependant family members, spouses or partners).
The guarantee does not apply to students who:
miss the application deadline,
have not firmly accepted their offer of study by 31 July 2017,
have previously studied at the University of Bristol
are Erasmus students.
Please note that in order to fulfil our guarantee we may make you an offer for a room that is not in one of our advertised residences or offer you temporary accommodation or a place in a room shared with another student for a short time.
Important information for prospective students
The Accommodation Guarantee will be withdrawn if any applicant has not met the terms of their offer of study by 31 August 2017.
The guarantee deadline for international students is usually July 31st but there are a very few exceptions to that. If you think you are an exception please contact theInternational Office and they will let us know whether we need to extend your guarantee deadline.

二、Accommodation for new postgraduates

1.Accommodation fees
Reservation fee
You will need to pay a refundablereservation fee of £500 in order to accept your accommodation offer. To make payment you will need a debit or credit card with a three digit security code on the reverse. The amount you pay to reserve your room, and who you pay it to, depends on which residence you have been offered. Full details, including how to make your reservation payment will be provided in your offer email.
Insurance costs
All University allocated accommodation comes with compulsory basic contents insurance. The policy you are covered by and the cost of the insurance varies according to which residence you are in. It is vital that you check your policy and ensure that the cover is suitable for your needs. Bicycles are not usually covered as standard and you should top-up your insurance to cover your bicycle, for example.
Accommodation fees
The accommodation fee you pay depends on the type of room you have. Studios are most expensive, and en suites have three rent levels, based on the age of the property and the number of people sharing a kitchen. The fee covers sole use of your room, all facilities provided by your residence, all gas, electricity and water rates, plus internet. You also pay an additional compulsory £35 JCR fee, towards the postgraduate junior common room, a committee run by students that organises social and sporting events.

2.Accommodation guarantee
The University guarantees to provide an offer of accommodation for new full-time postgraduate students during their first year of study who meet the following conditions:
pay fees at the overseas rate,
apply by 31 July 2017,
come to the University alone,
have received and firmly accepted an offer of a place of study (unconditional or conditional offers),
are new, full-time students in their first year of study at the University of Bristol,
will start their studies by 25 September 2017,
are here for a full academic year.
The guarantee does not apply to students who:
pay fees at the home rate,
miss the application deadline,
have previously studied at the University of Bristol,
are accompanied by their partners or family.
The guarantee deadline for international students is usually July 31st but there are a very few exceptions to that. If you think you are an exception please contact the International Office and they will let us know whether we need to extend your guarantee deadline.

3.Our accommodation: what to expect

(1)Where you'll live
Our postgraduate residences are all within easy walking distance of the University campus, and the city centre. Bristol benefits from an endless supply of shops, cafes and bars. Nearby shopping centres include Cabot Circus, The Galleries and Broadmead, which together have over 500 stores, cafes and restaurants. There are cinemas and theatres, as well as Bristol’s vibrant Harbourside, which hosts many festivals and events throughout the year, and is a popular area for nights out.

(2)Who you'll live with
Because our postgraduate accommodation guarantee applies to international students, you'll be living with other postgraduates, nearly all of whom will be international students. The majority (approximately 80%) of postgraduate students studying at the University come from China, so our postgraduate residences usually have a mix of students that is representative of this.
Within the flats in each residence, we aim to create a mix of students in terms of nationality, whilst trying to ensure that no one feels isolated. As we have so many Chinese students, we cannot always create a mix of nationalities and so if you are a Chinese student, it is likely that you will be living with all other Chinese students. We appreciate that this can be disappointing if you were hoping to meet and live with a wider range of nationalities, but we are not able to create a balanced mix in every flat.
Equally, if you are moving into a postgraduate residence after the tenancy has already started, it may be that the room available is sharing with students who are all of a different nationality to you. We understand that this can feel isolating, and you should contact us for advice if you are experiencing this issue.

(3)Support you'll receive
All postgraduate students living in University-allocated accommodation residences are provided with a network of support staff. There is a postgraduate Warden, who is assisted by a Student Support Adviser. The role of the pastoral team is to promote the well-being of students in the residence.
As the majority of our residences are owned by our partners, you'll also have staff on site to help you with any issues with damage or repairs needed to your room or flat. If you have any issues with the provider of your accommodation, the University's Partnerships Manager is able to assist. If you need to get in touch with the Partnerships Manager you can contact us.
