    You probably have some questions about how the OIS and IMES are awarded, when you’ll hear from UBC about them, and when you’ll get the money. Here are some answers:
    Do I need to apply for admission by a certain date to be considered for OIS and IMES?
    You must submit your UBC application for admission by January 15 in order to be considered for the OIS and IMES.
    How will I be considered for OIS or IMES?
    All international students are automatically considered for the OIS and/or IMES as soon as they have received an offer of admission to UBC. After you have received an offer of admission, your UBC application will be reviewed a second time – for OIS and IMES consideration. If you are selected for an award, you will be notified by email shortly after you are offered admission to UBC.
    When are OIS and IMES decisions made?
    Decisions are made on a rolling basis, beginning in February. You will be notified of your OIS or IMES status sometime between February and mid-April, depending on when you receive your offer of admission to UBC.
    How will I be notified about the scholarship/award?
    Students who are selected to receive the OIS and/or IMES will be notified by email between February and April.
    I was awarded both the OIS and the IMES. Will I only get one, or can I receive both?
    Depending on merit, you may receive the OIS only, the IMES only, or both the OIS and the IMES. If you are eligible for both, you will receive the OIS in first year, and you will receive the IMES over the course of your four-year degree.
    Three weeks have passed since my status on the SSC was updated to “admitted,” and I still have not heard about OIS or IMES. What does that mean?
    If it has been three weeks or longer since your SSC status was updated to “admitted,” then it has been determined that you are not eligible for OIS or IMES.
    When will I receive my OIS and/or IMES funds?
    You must complete course registration starting in June. The funds are then applied directly toward your tuition and fees in two scheduled installments – one in September and one in January.
    Can I apply for scholarships and awards while I am a UBC student?
    Yes, international students in excellent standing at UBC may apply for and receive small financial awards for their second, third, and fourth years of study. However, it is important to know that these awards are very selective, are given only one year at a time, and cover a small fraction of your overall tuition fees. They will not cover the full costs of studying and living at UBC.

    UBC’s International Scholars Program offers significant support for outstanding international undergraduate students through the International Leader of Tomorrow Award and the Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award.
    The International Leader of Tomorrow Award recognizes international undergraduate students who demonstrate superior academic achievement, leadership skills, involvement in student affairs and community service, recognized achievement in fields of endeavour such as the performing arts, sports, debating or creative writing, or external academic competitions and examinations.
    The Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award recognizes outstanding international undergraduate students from impoverished or war-torn areas, who have achieved academic excellence under difficult circumstances and who would be unable to pursue post-secondary education without financial assistance.
    The value of awards is commensurate with demonstrated financial need, and sufficient to cover tuition costs for the relevant program of study, and living expenses. A Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award can be renewed for up to three additional years of undergraduate study, or to degree completion, whichever is less, provided the recipient achieves satisfactory academic standing in their faculty, continues to demonstrate financial need, and maintains their Canadian Study Permit (visa).

    The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at UBC provides academically talented yet economically disadvantaged young people from Sub-Saharan Africa with access to quality and relevant university education at UBC.
    The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program is a 10-year global initiative to educate and develop next-generation leaders who will contribute to social and economic progress. The Program enables young people from economically disadvantaged communities to complete quality secondary and tertiary education, and make successful transitions to further education, or to the workforce in their home countries. Through comprehensive support, Scholars receive learning opportunities that equip them with knowledge, skills, and values needed to succeed in the economy, and make positive impacts in their communities.
    Scholars in the Program are primarily from Africa. In recent years, the continent has experienced unprecedented economic progress and political resurgence. More than 60 percent of its population is under the age of 25, making it the youngest continent. Yet, Sub-Saharan Africa is the region with the lowest enrollment rates in secondary and tertiary education.

    This award is offered to students beginning their undergraduate studies at UBC in the Vantage One Program who demonstrate both academic excellence and financial need.
    Awards ranging in value up to $16,000 are offered to students beginning their undergraduate studies in the Vantage One Program at UBC. The awards will be granted on the basis of academic merit; financial need will also be taken into account. The award is non-renewable and is made on the recommendation of UBC Vantage College.

    UBC continues to support international students through a variety of in-program scholarships and awards. Scholarship and award amounts will vary, as will their renewability – the largest amount is currently $5,000 per year.

    International Community Achievement Awards
    Awards of $3000 each are available to continuing international undergraduate students who have demonstrated leadership in community service, international engagement, intercultural understanding, promotion of diversity or intellectual, artistic or athletic pursuits.

    Types of awards
    Scholarships
    Scholarships are awarded at the beginning of the academic year for academic achievement. They are based on grades and achievements from the previous Winter session but can also include non-academic factors such as leadership, UBC or faculty involvement, and other criteria.
    Prizes
    Prizes are awarded at the end of the academic year for academic achievement. Criteria for many prizes can include achievement in a particular course or program, leadership, participation, or work on a project.
    Prizes may be financial awards, books, or medals.
    Academic awards
    Academic awards are given out either at the beginning or end of the academic year and are based on academic achievement.
    Non-academic or service awards
    Non-academic or service awards recognize achievement or participation in athletics, leadership, UBC or community involvement and other rewarding pursuits. They do not appear on transcripts.
    How do I apply?
    The majority of awards do not require an application and students are automatically considered for any scholarships, awards, or prizes for which they are eligible.
    Some faculties do require applications. Contact your faculty’s scholarship representative or check your faculty website to find out more.
    How will I know if I have been offered an award?
    If you are offered an award, we will email you with information on how to accept your offer.

    (原文)Trek Excellence Scholarship
    About the scholarship
    Trek Excellence Scholarships are offered every year to students in the top 5% of their undergraduate year, faculty, and school. Rankings are based on students’ top 27 percentage-graded credits, as per Senate Award regulations.
    Domestic students receive an award of $1,500 and international students receive an award of $4,000. Awards of $1,000 are also given to international students who are in the top 5% to 10%.
    Am I eligible?
    Eligibility is evaluated on grades and records from your previous Winter Session. You must have been registered in at least 27 percentage-graded credits and be continuing in the same faculty or school.
    Your average will be based on your best 27 percentage-graded credits.
    The following courses will not be counted toward your average: Audited courses,Wait-listed courses,Summer courses and Credit/D/Fail courses.
    You must be continuing in the same faculty and school, and be registered in a minimum of 24 credits. If you are in a post-baccalaureate program such as Medicine, Dentistry, Law, or Education (except NITEP) you will not be eligible. You do, however, qualify for substantial faculty-recommended scholarships.
    How do I apply?
    There is no application required for Trek Excellence Scholarships. Students are automatically considered based on their grades for the prior session. We start notifying students in late August and continue into late September.
