    The majority of middle schools in the United States are public schools, and education through high school is obligatory. Therefore, there are no qualifying examinations to enter middle school. Enrollment can either be done at the school itself or at the school district office, depending on the policy of the school district. Public education in the United States is free, and parents do not pay tuition.
