    The Christmas Present
    Elizabeth lived with her six children in a small house. One winter, there was a big flood and quite a few houses were washed away, but Elizabeth’s house was high enough to escape it.
    Elizabeth took in one of the families which had lost everything. She shared her home until the family could build another house. Elizabeth’s friends could not understand why she wanted to give so much when she already had so many children to support.

    What is the hottest word in China last year? Google gave its list this month. “Shanzhai” (山寨), a Chinese word, which today means “copying”, is on the top of the list.
    It’s true that “shanzhai” is everywhere. There are “shanzhai” movies, songs, and TV programs. Some young people even tried to prepare for a “shanzhai” Spring Festival gala (春晚), in which ordinary people would be invited to take part. “I want to ① the ‘shanzhai’ gala on Spring Festival Eve,” said 19-year-old Fan Xiaojie in Wuhan. “The performers can express themselves in a more creative and funnier way than those on CCTV.”
    “‘Shanzhai’ is a way for young people to have their voices heard” said Professor Gu Haibin. “The copying trend (趨勢) also encourages DIY (do it yourself).
